Blog EntryThe Top 10 Superheroes (for Women!)Mar 12, '07 6:08 AM
for everyone

First, Joey Bonifacio and Robert Hern did the weirdest things to the definition of "romantic movies." Then, I discovered that my friend, Jed, had posted a blog on the Top Superheroes with nary a female superhero to grace the top 10. This calls for a response!!! Here, therefore, are my Top 10 Superheroes ... for women!

#10 - The Bionic Woman - who can ever forget that "da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da" sound as Lindsey Wagner ran at 60 mph, leaped over buildings, and eavesdropped on conversations half a mile away? The whole memory loss thing and her forgetting that she was supposed to marry the Bionic Man was just so tragic...

#9 - Captain Caveman: definitely qualifies as the CUTEST superhero of all time! WHO in the world ever thought up a cuddly caveman as a superhero...???)

#8 - Spiderman (Toby McGuire): Spiderman almost beat out the Powerpuff Girls on account of the fact that I like his dry sense of humor and the fact that he can laugh at himself. But, man, that outfit of his just does not do it for me...

#7 - The Powerpuff Girls: their motto is "saving the world before bedtime" -- now if that isn't girl power, I don't know what is...

#6 - Mr. Incredible: is on the list because of his incredible feats of strength and cool costume. However, he was narrowly edged out by Elastigirl for a spot in the top 5 due to the fact that lied to his wife about being fired from his job as an insurance salesman and flew off to an exotic island with a skinny blond.

#5 - Elastigirl: is in the top 5 because, let's face it, the girl has spunk. She cooks. She cleans. She raises 3 rambunctious superchildren. She also kicks supervillain butt. And did you notice she did most of the heavy lifting when they had to ride the rocket over to fight Syndrome?

#4 - Superman (Brandon Routh): the superhero from "Superman Returns" takes the #4 spot due to the fact that: a) Superman is just such a nice guy, and b) Brandon Routh has the most amazing blue eyes ('nuff said).

#3 - Wonder Woman (Linda Carter): okay, so it was the height of "CHEESE." But you have to admit -- Wonder Woman will always be the best female Superhero because: a) how many women could even pull off wearing that costume??? Seriously. And b) how can you resist a show with the theme lyrics, "In your satin tights; fighting for your rights"???

#2 - Wolverine (Hugh Jackman): X-Men is one of my favorite movies, and Hugh Jackman's tortured Wolverine warrants #2 on my list because: a) he has that killer 6-pack (abs, not beer), and b) he's a mean mutant fighting machine.

#1 - Batman (Christian Bale): okay, I just have to say that Batman Begins is the best superhero movie and Christian Bale is the best looking Superhero. Ever. Besides being super handsome, Bale's Batman is intelligent, suave, tough, and witty. My favorite line: "You know how it is, you're out at night, looking for kicks, someone's passing around the weaponized hallucinogens..."

hahahaha!!!! what an entertaining blog! gosh, i didn't know you had a side like this. do you secretly visit comicons too?

i would have to agree with numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, and 9. but probably for different reasons.

is that why you draged me out to see batman begins in an imax theatre is nashville with your friend from south africa? i thought you were hosting me -- now i find out it was just because you wanted to see christian bale on giant screen (he,he). seriously, thanks again for that movie treat, i really enjoyed it. ok, ok -- like joseph there are some here that qualify as super heroes for other reasons -- but captain caveman????

Lynn, where is THE BROWN HORNET from FAT ALBERT???

"It's not a bird... it's not a bee... it's the *Brown Hoooooooooooooornet*! As you recall, last time we left our hero, the Brown Hornet, and his trusty pal Stinger hopelessly trapped in
[Different Dangerous Situation]
Using the Brown Hornet's super powers, they naturally escaped unharmed!"

Actually your list is great!!

Josh Says:

Ok ok, let me help you here.
The reason why you'll NEVER see the Bionic woman on ANY man's list is because NOBODY wants a wife that can hear every word he whispers under his breath a half a mile away! THAT'S NOT SUPER, IT'S SUPER SCARY!

Captain caveman?! more like cousin "it" with a stick.

Spiderman's cool, except he totally weenied out on the commitment thing (with Mary Jane) and with his Uncle's killer...but since he learned his lesson and in Spiderman2 worked out the commitment thing, I think he deserves a top 10 spot.

Powderpuff girls?! - no comment.

Mr. Incredible: I agree with your assessment however, I might like to point out that he did also loose like 60 pounds of superfat, making him also a canidate for the "biggest loser" gameshow.

Elastigirl: ABSOLUTELY AGREE! any woman that can do all she does and simultaneously spank one kid while kissing her husband goodbye from across the room definately deserves a place at the table.

Superman: Only if you like guys who get there girlfriends "preggers" outside of wedlock and then leave the planet for 5 years....DEADBEAT DAD!

Wonderwoman: yeah ok, any woman who can fly a jet, especially an invisible jet can stay in the top 5.

Wolverine: Probably should be NUMBER 1, because he kicks serious buttockage and keeps his "sixpack" while drinking his sixpack. only a superhero is capable of such.

Batman: AGREE! maybe number 2 because of the reason mentioned above, however what I like about Batman is his humanity! He does what he does based only on ingenuity and training, NO 'OTHER PLANET' reasoning,

......... oooooh yeah!!! (nuff said)

#1 is definitely christian bale's batman. so cool.
james bond, who many people don't realize actually DOES have super powers. he's super-cool. that's enough for me.
wolverine-so cool.
superman (the new one, like you said) was amazing.

good list.

by the way Lynn, I actually like your blog and choices... I just wanted to add a MAN'S perspective but, you rightly called it the top 10 for women because if neither Maximus nor shrek are on the list, well.....I dunno.

Lynn,

I enjoyed your list, but I have to object to your assessment. Technically I didn’t have an individual female character in the Top 10, but Invisible Girl is in the Fantastic Four (#7), there are too many female Avengers to name (#6), I mentioned the ‘Dark Phoenix Saga’ which centers around Jean Grey as the greatest X-Men story of all-time (#4), and I described the significance of Wonder Woman’s role in the leadership of the Justice League (#3).

Looking at your list it seems as though you based your rankings on movies and TV alone; I evaluated my list from the overall mythology. Granted that’s a “nerdier” approach, but I think it yields a more well-rounded result.

All in all, I enjoyed your list, especially Captain Caveman, a Hanna-Barbara jewel from my childhood. On a list for women though, you’d think you’d include his sidekicks, “The Teen Angels.”

Nerdier approach to listing the top 10 super heroes. This is funny.

true true!! i love it that he's totally human...no vat of toxic waste, alien blood or radioactive insect factor there :)

hm...well, maybe billions of dollars to do whatever he wants, but at least he's smart, athletic and good-looking :D

actually, it's mostly based on looks (at least #1, 2 & 4)

I agree 100% with batman! He's a handsome billionaire who's really a good guy and a bad boy at the same time plus he has a social conscience. and the gadgets, wayne manor, alfred... what's not to love? Yep. Definitely #1. And wolverine is a worthy # 2. I agree with josh about superman.

i considered underdog and mighty mouse (they get honorable mention -- what for being heroes despite being underdogs and undersized!) TMNT unfortunately does not make the grade for me and sorry but, no, luke skywalker does not count -- he is not a superhero, he just knows how to use the force :)
